Description

A genuine vintage Ulster 183Y Dogleg Jack dating approximately to the late 1950s or early 1960s.

This traditional American pocket knife features a two-blade configuration with a long clip-point main blade and smaller pen blade. The main tang carries the ULSTER / U.S.A. marking, while the reverse tang is stamped 183Y, identifying the pattern.

The knife is fitted with smooth maize-yellow synthetic handle scales, an oval shield, metal bolsters, brass-colored pins and traditional slipjoint construction.

This is a well-used vintage working knife that retains considerable original character and patina.

The photographs show the actual knife being offered.

Condition

I would grade this particular knife Fair to Good Vintage Pre-Owned Condition.

Both blades show substantial evidence of previous use, including scratches, sharpening marks, dark spotting, oxidation and age-related patina. The main clip-point blade has experienced noticeable sharpening and use but retains its basic profile and an intact point. The smaller pen blade exhibits similar scratches, spotting and sharpening wear.

The yellow handle scales appear complete without an obvious major crack or missing section. They do show age, discoloration, scratches and handling marks. The oval shield remains in place.

The bolsters, backsprings, liners and exposed metal components show scratches, tarnish, oxidation and patina consistent with an approximately 65-year-old working pocket knife.
