Description

A classic piece of American pocket-knife history, this vintage Hammer Brand equal-end jack knife features two traditional folding blades and attractive cream-colored pearlescent handle scales.

The main blade carries the recognizable Hammer Brand arm-and-hammer tang stamp with U.S.A., identifying this as an Imperial-era Hammer Brand knife rather than an earlier New York Knife Company example. Imperial acquired the historic Hammer Brand trademark during the 1930s and used it extensively on affordable American-made pocket knives.

This traditional equal-end pattern has a long spear/pen-style main blade accompanied by a smaller secondary pen blade. Both blades feature nail-nick opening, with rounded metal bolsters at each end.

Its age, visible patina and pearlescent scales give this knife plenty of vintage character and make it an interesting addition to a collection of classic American pocket knives.

This knife shows substantial age and previous use. Both blades exhibit scratches, staining, patina and areas of oxidation consistent with an older working pocket knife. The blades have also seen sharpening and show some loss from their original profiles.

The pearlescent handle scales remain attractive overall and show normal age-related marks and discoloration. The bolsters, liners and backsprings show additional patina and surface wear.

The knife has not been polished or restored, preserving the vintage character and markings.
